VISITOR INFORMATION
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum was founded in 1937 and is dedicated to collecting, preserving and exhibiting modern and contemporary art.
Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the building was completed in 1959, after both his and Guggenheim's deaths. Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum's notable feature is the six-story rotunda and its spiralling walkway. This provides a quarter-mile of what seems to be endless works of art.
Some of the better known pieces in its permanent collection are by Picasso, Klee, Van Gogh and Cezanne. From the original exhibition, which included two ramps devoted to Kandinsky's work, to more recent exhibitions including the works of Max Beckmann, Robert Maplethorpe and an exhibit devoted to the art of Africa, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum has shown that its interests are far-reaching.
